Week 5 of Weekly Wellness: Two Steps to Shiny Hair

For me, the last couple of weeks before a hair appointment are torture. It’s like my split ends are yelling at me to be trimmed and laying weirdly flat as a form of protest. I’m sure it doesn’t help that the last few years and a global pandemic have been encouraging factors for me to extend the length of time between hair services anywhere from eight to 10 weeks.

4 Easy Ways to Air-Dry Hair to Perfection

Chemically treated and assaulted regularly with heat from the blowdryer and styling tools (on top of winter in a dry climate) make for locks in need of serious TLC. For this week’s #WeeklyWellness2021 Challenge, I pulled out an elegant conditioning duo to smooth my troubled head.

A Quick Fix Weekly Remedy

I love hair masks, but truth be told, I forget to use them regularly since they usually require 15-20 minutes to set, which isn’t a luxury I always have. Out of desperation for help in the hair department this week, I pulled out Rita Hazan’s Weekly Remedy Treatment and was pleased that this system doesn’t require any extra time. It’s a two-step process designed to open the hair cuticle for potent nutrient penetration, then seal it back up for long-lasting effects.

Step one is to be applied after shampooing, then rinsed immediately. Afterwards, step two is applied from roots to end, then rinsed immediately. This system takes the place of conditioner, making it very streamlined. The brand recommends using once a week—or twice a week for severely damaged hair.

How It Works & My Experience

Hair is treated in the first step and sealed in the second thanks to nourishing keratin, shea butter, olive oil, and jojoba. Color is preserved with a protective shield to block out UV rays and free radicals. The scent for both steps is floral and feels quite luxurious, leaving behind a lingering perfumed effect.

While there are loads of inexpensive options out there and the system seems a bit pricey for only two ounces each, a little bit goes a long way. I believe you get what you pay for with this one. My hair felt soft, smooth, and shiny immediately after, lasting for a couple of days.

Made for dry, damaged, and color-treated hair like mine, I really could benefit from using this weekly and since it’s so easy to use, probably will. This simple self-care moment was a sensory sensation in the shower and a major self-esteem pick-me-up!

Cost: $42
