During this unreliable and stressful time, practicing self-care is crucial to combat some of these negative effects. Various spas and wellness centers across the country, such as Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa in Coronado, California, are offering services to help relieve retrograded stresses. The resort’s Spa Director, Veljko Savic, shares a few suggestions for at-home remedies and spa treatments offered by The Spa at Coronado Island that will help you relax and unwind:

Concern #1: Miscommunication. Mercury’s retrograde makes conversations more difficult, sometimes resulting in conflict and miscommunication in relationships. To combat, bonding and quality time is recommended.

  • Home Fix: Date night in with candles, light music, and DIY massages.

  • Spa Fix: Couple’s massage treatment that promotes togetherness and bonding.

  • Recommended Spa Treatment: Couple’s Retreat. This perfectly spoiling escape begins with a his and her scrub, followed by a 50-minute couples’ massage. Complete with a scalp massage and a complimentary glass of champagne. (80 min)

Concern #2: Anxiety. When Mercury is moving backwards, daily mishaps can cause stress and anxiety. To combat, allow time to ‘turn off’ the mind.

  • Home Fix: Create a nighttime ritual like reading a chapter, writing in a journal, or drinking decaffeinated herbal teas like chamomile and peppermint.

  • Spa Fix: A nourishing body wrap that keeps the body cocooned and warm with mood-balancing aromatics.

  • Recommended Spa Treatment: Elemis Body Nectar Frangipani Nourishing Wrap. The velvety texture of the Monoi oil offers super hydration, quenching thirsty skin. You are kept cocooned and warm while the mood-balancing aromatics and skin conditioning oils do their work. (50 min)

Concern #3: Sleep Deprivation & Tired Eyes. This retrograde period increases emotions, making it difficult to achieve a good night’s sleep and causing underage bags and tired eyes.

  • Home Fix: Massage aloe vera underneath the eyes and rinse with cool water, then apply caffeinated cold teabags (green or black) to reduce the swelling.

  • Spa Fix: A skin resurfacing facial that gently stimulates and tightens the delicate and fragile eye area.

  • Recommended Spa Treatment: BIOTEC Skin Resurfacer Facial. This revolutionary perfecting facial reduces the appearance of uneven skin tones. BIOTEC technology is refined enough to gently stimulate and tighten the delicate eye area, without disturbing the fragile skin. (25/50/80 min)

Concern #4: Deterioration of the Spirit. During Mercury’s retrograde we are more forgetful, our intuition is off, and we often become overwhelmed with frustration.

  • Home Fix: Take a digital detox by turning off electronics and putting a hold on social media; practice yoga at home to place the body in natural equilibrium.

  • Spa Fix: An oil massage using aromatherapy blends that utilize nature’s elements to invigorate and detoxify the body.

  • Recommended Spa Treatment: Aroma Journey Massage. This thoughtfully guided experience uses two of the most powerful senses of the body—sense of touch and smell, taking your massage to the next level. The massage therapist pairs aromatherapy oil blends to take you on this amazing journey. (50/80 min)
