The spa’s inspiration comes from three central themes: the moon, the sea, and Mexican folk healing (known as curanderismo).

There are six signature treatments on the menu that represent the varying energies of the lunar phases and its connection to earth, as well as aquatic and sea-based treatments that harness the pull of the ocean’s energy and the healing powder of the sea. Waldorf Astoria Spa honors the Mexican folk healing tradition with its spa guardian, using rituals, herbs, and healing to address the material, spiritual, and mental realms.

We spoke with Spa Director Irene Campaña, who discussed the spa’s splurge-worthy services, unique amenities, and more.

Unique Treatment: The Intention, definitely. This is a true Mexican healer treatment that was created by local healers, and uses local techniques and herbs that have been passed through generations.

Splurge Treatment: Any of our Signature Moon Treatments consisting of a body scrub with natural ingredients, followed by a moon phase massage with ingredients that enhance the healing powers of each cycle (i.e. Awakening, Nourishing, Calming, and Restoring).

The Mexican Folk Healing and Wellness therapies are pretty spectacular, specifically the Art of Sound Therapy, in which sound is coupled with stimulation of acupressure points and massage techniques to restore balance to the body.

The Damiana & Honeymoon Treatment utilizes native Baja traditions with the Damiana flower in an effort to increase energy, calm the nervous system, uplift the spirit, and act as an aphrodisiac.
