The Ocean Pearl Spa at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa reopened in June and introduced Kerri Calver as its new spa director alongside special offerings.

The Ocean Pearl Spa invites both locals and hotel guests to enjoy luxury spa services inspired by the ocean. Guests have the opportunity to enjoy custom and enhanced facials, body and skincare treatments, tranquil massages, and more for pampering and restful relaxation. The resort has oceanfront views and is located near Carlsbad’s top attractions including shopping, the state beach, and downtown San Diego.

After closing amid the pandemic, Ocean Pearl Spa officially opened its doors on June 26. As COVID-19 cases had decreased at the time along with staff that were eager to get back to work, Calver followed hotel and state guidelines, welcoming customers into the spa.

“It was also the perfect time to bring more wellness back to the resort,” Calver says.

Calver is a San Diego native but her experiences have taken her around the world. For over 30 years, she has been a massage therapist. She also formerly worked with chiropractors where she developed knowledge of clinical techniques.

Calver traveled with the Padres and the U.S. gymnastics team, preparing for competitions and examining sports injuries. In 2005, she opened her own business providing massage and skincare services, as well as preparing entertainers for shows with organic makeup. As a new opportunity arose, Calver was drawn to the Westin Carlsbad Resort and Spa.

“When I interviewed, the resort had a family feel, and I felt like I would be a part of this fantastic family. I fell in love with the resort. It has an amazing, welcoming feel. I saw the reopening as a challenge that I wanted to take on,” Calver says.

The reopening of Ocean Pearl Spa brings more ocean-inspired treatments. The Sunrise Body Treatment gets clients ready for a day in the California sunshine. The treatment includes a full-body scrub, which melts into the skin and creates a firming effect as it exfoliates dead skin cells. A hyaluronic oil is then massaged into the skin and finished off with a tinted sunscreen.

There is also the Sunset Body Treatment, which is similar to the Sunrise Body Treatment. This procedure is for after a day of sun where deep moisturizing and repair creams are added.

Aside from these treatments, the Ocean Pearl Spa is introducing a new nail technician. Calver says the spa will be providing some specials for nail services for the community to get to know the technician better.

Ocean Pearl Spa also plans to launch “bring-a-buddy” specials, which involve bringing a friend along for a complimentary spa pass. There will also be a VIP room special, where groups of four to eight people can book a private room with special amenities alongside services. Speciality skincare products like ilike Organic Skin Care will also be brought in as the holidays approach.

“I’m excited to create a fun wellness environment,” Calver says. “I’m eager to help with the growth and support of my staff while fulfilling the needs of our guests.”
