Facial Review: We Tried Fire and Ice, the Famous Facial Celebrities Get Before the Red Carpet

The view from my Fire and Ice Facial at Four Seasons Los Angeles

Celebrities put a lot of effort into looking their best for awards season and red carpet events. This includes getting ready with talented teams made up of hairstylists, makeup artists, and wardrobe stylists. It also means working with top fitness trainers and skincare pros to prep. After all, love it or hate it, so much of a star’s public image is connected to appearance.

Candace Marino, The LA Facialist shares, “Most of the celebs we treat before a big event are doing really consistent treatments throughout the year. We see them monthly, sometimes weekly all year round. The glow you see isn't from a one-time treatment, it's the culmination of lifestyle practices that include good nutrition, exercise, consistent facials, chemical peels, lasers and other treatments. Fire & Ice (an iS Clinical facial) plays a key role to that glowing, red-carpet skin.”

When I was offered the opportunity to try the popular award season iS Clinical Fire and Ice Facial (known as the Red Carpet Facial), I had to see what it was all about for the sake of “research.” This facial has been a popular treatment in Hollywood for more than two decades, and I wanted to find out why.

I also wanted to let you in on a celebrity secret so that if you want to get ready for an event like a star, you’d have a little more insight on how to do it. Yes, I aim to ruin a little bit of the mystery behind celebrity beauty rituals, and give you all the details of what’s involved.

Fire and Ice is a resurfacing and rejuvenation treatment that involves the combination of warming and cooling sensations designed to leave skin feeling refreshed and invigorated. iS Clinical says this facial gets skin glowing, vibrant, and polished with zero down time. So stars can basically go straight from their facials to getting ready to hit the red carpet. Can you really go straight from this facial to a big event? There’s only one way to find out!

The Fire and Ice Facial Experience

Four Seasons Los Angeles Entrance

Celebrity fans of iS Clinical include Selena Gomez, Angela Bassett, Julianne Moore, Kristen Bell, Olivia Culpo, Suki Waterhouse, Victoria Beckham, and many more. This year the brand hosted a celebrity and VIP Fire and Ice Facial Suite at the luxurious Four Seasons Los Angeles ahead of the Oscars, and I was lucky enough to snag an invite. As you may know, Four Seasons Los Angeles is a hub of A-list activity before the Academy Awards. It’s an exciting place to visit during awards season!

Jasmine Borrow, Lead Facialist at The LA Facialist

I arrived at the Four Seasons and headed to iS Clinical’s suite to meet Jasmine Borrow, Lead Facialist at The LA Facialist, for my Fire and Ice. Here’s how the 60 minute facial went:

First, I apologized to Jasmine for coming in with a full face of makeup. Jasmine then triple cleansed my face with iS Clinical Cream Cleanser, Cleansing Complex and Warming Honey Cleanser. This felt amazing, and Jasmine also worked her magic with a relaxing face, neck, and décolleté massage.

Next, Jasmine applied the Intensive Resurfacing Masque which acts as the “fire” element of the facial. This part may sound a little intimidating, but I didn’t find it overly intense. I also enjoyed the scent which was reminiscent of Red Hots cinnamon candy.

This resurfacing masque exfoliates away dead surface cells. The combination of botanical acids, niacinamide, vitamin A, kaolin clay, and additional antioxidants is used to help promote circulation to smooth, detox, and brighten skin.

After this, Jasmine neutralized my skin using Cleansing Complex. She also did extractions which I appreciated!

Next, Jasmine applied Rejuvenating Masque. This is the ice element that helps to hydrate and restore the skin. It contains aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, green tea extract grape seed oil, and rosemary extract along with other antioxidants to soothe the skin. It felt cool and refreshing.

After five minutes, Jasmine removed the mask and ended the facial with a little massage. She also consulted with me about which iS Clinical products would best suit my skin type to help me maintain the results.

The Fire and Ice Facial Results

How did I feel after the Fire and Ice Facial? Fantastic! There’s nothing like a relaxing spa treatment to end a busy week, especially when it’s at a place as beautiful as the Four Seasons with a talented esthetician and products from a great brand. The facial was incredibly relaxing and my skin felt great.

How did I look after the Fire and Ice Facial? As promised, my skin was glowing and I definitely would not have needed to wait for any recovery to go somewhere right after the facial. I’ll let you judge for yourself – here’s a no makeup, no filter selfie I took as I was leaving the facial. Not the most flattering angle, but you can see how clear and bright my skin looked minutes after the facial with no makeup.

If you are in Los Angeles, you can visit Jasmine or Candace at The LA Facialist. You can also find an authorized professional that offers Fire and Ice at a spa near you at isclinical.com/find-a-professional. While the Resurfacing Masque and Rejuvenating Masque used for this facial should only be used by a licensed esthetician, all of the other cleansers and products Jasmine used on me can be purchased at isclinical.com.

When it comes to facials, you absolutely should be selective when it comes to finding a reputable spa, esthetician, and brand of products for your treatments. That being said, everyone’s skin is different, so it’s important to do your research to find out what products and ingredients will work best for you. Be sure to let your esthetician know about any sensitivities, allergies, or skin concerns. For any medical concerns, see a dermatologist.
