#BeautyBoss: Dr. Heather D. Rogers, Founder and CEO of Doctor Rogers Skin Care

Dr. Heather D. Rogers.

Our latest #BeautyBoss is Dr. Heather D. Rogers, Founder of Doctor Rogers Skin Care—her namesake skincare line that uses high-quality ingredients that are effective, hypoallergenic, nontoxic, and biodegradable. A graduate of Stanford University and University Washington School of Medicine, Dr. Rogers completed her dermatology residency and fellowships at Columbia University Medical Center, regularly lecturing on skin care, aesthetics, and improving patient outcomes.

The renowned double board-certified dermatologist has repeatedly been named a Top Doctor in Seattle and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Division of Dermatology. She is also co-founder of Modern Dermatology, a Seattle-based practice that is dedicated to offering the best, safest, and most appropriate treatments for various dermatologic concerns.

Dr. Rogers works with her patients one-on-one to educate them on skin conditions, products, procedures, and lifestyle choices for a comprehensive approach to skincare. She is also a highly-skilled surgeon who specializes in Mohs micrograph surgery and cutting-edge aesthetics, which makes her uniquely qualified to treat skin cancer with minimal scarring.

We interviewed Dr. Rogers, who shared the inspiration behind her line, her signature procedures and treatments, and more.

Doctor Rogers Skin Care is Dr. Rogers’ namesake skincare line that features high-quality ingredients that are effective, hypoallergenic, nontoxic, and biodegradable.

When was the Doctor Rogers Skin Care founded?

Doctor Rogers Skin Care was founded in 2015. You may know us by our former name, Doctor Rogers RESTORE, because the first product launched was our Healing Balm, which was about restoring damaged or injured skin to its healthiest self. As the product range expanded, we changed the name, intentionally making Skin Care two words because we teach consumers how to care for their skin and provide the right tools through expertly formulated products. I see the power of great skin. Healthy, radiant skin makes one feel confident and beautiful. I want to put the right knowledge and products into people's hands to empower them to uncover the best version of their skin.

What inspired the creation of the brand?

After two decades of patient care and seeing increasing skin reactions to "clean" products that my patients were using because of the rising concerns about the accumulation of unwanted chemicals in our world and bodies, I saw a real need for skincare that is effective and safe but also respects our bodies and planet. In response, I founded my namesake skincare line. Doctor Rogers' products use fewer, high-quality ingredients that are effective, hypoallergenic, nontoxic, and biodegradable.

Dr. Rogers is also co-founder of Modern Dermatology, a Seattle-based practice.

Do you have a hero product?

Our Healing Balm is magic. It heals everything and has many beauty uses like slugging, highlighting, and flyaway hair or brow taming. But mostly, it is what you need to give your skin in its time of need, be it a scrape, burn or eczema flare. The before and afters and clinical study results are outstanding, and the thousands of five-star reviews and thank you emails are heartwarming. It is a superior product at every level. It works better than other derm-recommended balms and salves while being safe, biodegradable, and packaged in recyclable packaging. It is everything you could want!

What are your favorite products from the brand?

That is very much like asking a mom to pick a favorite child! I love and use them all daily, but I probably go through the Face Cream the fastest because I have such dry skin. I go through a jar a month, using it twice daily on my face, neck, chest, and hands.

Where are your products sold?

Our products are available on our website, Amazon, and leading beauty retailers like Credo Beauty, Shopbop, Revolve, and Violet Grey. You can also find us at select medical practices, spas, and estheticians like Joanna Czech. We're also available at Thompson and Four Season Hotels.

Future plans for the brand?

I can't disclose too much, but they are big. We have newness coming this summer by way of a new category with impressive before and afters. We also have more product launches slated for 2024.

Modern Dermatology is dedicated to offering the best, safest, and most appropriate treatments for various dermatologic concerns.

When was Modern Dermatology founded?

Modern Dermatology also opened in 2015. It was a busy year!

What services do you offer?

We have five dermatologists at Modern Dermatology and offer a wide range of medical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology. I am the only fellowship-trained, board-certified surgical dermatologist and do the more complex procedures for the office, including facial excisions, Mohs surgery for skin cancer, scar revision, injectables, CO2 lasering and Ellacor. We also offer Clear + Brilliant, IPL, EMface, Emsculpt, facials and chemical peels.

What’s your specialty/signature treatment?

My patients refer to me as "the doctor who stops time." I focus on outstanding but natural, long-lasting results. This requires a multiple-step, long-term relationship, including exceptional skin care, varied aesthetic treatments, and sometimes saying “No” to patients, particularly regarding too much filler. One of my signature treatments is my Enhanced Fractionated CO2 lasering therapy with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and proven skin care and oral supplements to speed healing and improve outcomes. I treat eyelid skin, face, neck, and chest with this protocol to stimulate the significant production of new skin and collagen. I also take great pride in making subtle scars when I perform surgery and fading scars made elsewhere.

What product lines do you carry?

In addition to Doctor Rogers Skin Care we carry several lines, including SkinBetter, Senté, Supergoop!, SkinCeuticals, Vanicream, Dermaquest, Is Clinical, PCA, and many more.

Dr. Rogers is a renowned double board-certified dermatologist who has repeatedly been named a Top Doctor in Seattle.

Who inspires you?

I'm inspired by anyone who problem-solves.

Secret to success?

Grit and respect for others.

Beauty secrets?

Staying beautiful is work. Good genes only get you so far. At about 35, you can tell who is taking care of themselves and who is not. Here are my non-negotiables:

  • I stay out of the direct sun if unprotected.

  • I use an antioxidant (my Day Preventive Treatment is launching in September), my Face Cream, and a zinc-based sunscreen every morning.

  • At night, I use my Face Wash, an evening turnover treatment (my Night Repair Treatment is launching in September), and my Face Cream

  • My morning and nighttime skincare routines always include my face, neck, chest, and hands.

  • I take collagen powder and polypodium leucotomos pills daily.

Wellness tips?

I try to sleep seven hours a day and get some form of exercise three times a week. I also try to leave work stress at work and be present in my life outside of work. This often requires me to listen to pop music and sing my heart out on the drive home.

Best advice?

Life can be challenging, but you must choose to find happiness and gratitude. When I get knocked down, I cry and then push myself to move on and find a reason to smile.

Favorite ways to relax?

My mind is always running so it has to be distracted for me to relax. I love to travel and enjoy a well-cooked meal and conversation with people I love. I love games such as card games, board games, and playing sports. My kids recently got me doing Roblox with them.
