Beauty Boss: Patricia Walker, Founder of Farm to Skin

We chatted with Serrins who shared the inspiration behind her successful skincare studio and product line, signature treatments, beauty secrets, and much more.

When was Jenette Skin Care founded and what inspired its creation?

It was founded in 2012. Being a part of the beauty industry for so many years, at a very young age I saw quite a lot behind the scenes! Especially when it came to the ingredients that filled up much of what we were using in the treatment room and then what we were selling to our clients. The deeper I dove, the more I saw how toxic our skincare products were.

The products that were treating acne were causing long-term damage to the dermis, promoting sensitivity to light and later turning into hyperpigmentation. The products that were treating aging were trapping so much moisture and endocrine disruptors into the body, that have potentially led to clogged/enlarged pores and potentially infertility. This is when I knew I had to create my own natural line of healing products.

Do you have a hero product?

My hero product is my miracle mask, Just Add Sugar. It is your mini facial in a jar! The smell is intoxicating, and after 20 minutes, the skin is completely transformed.

Being in LA is a private high-vibrational skincare studio in Silver Lake, CA that embraces the philosophy of holistic healing.

When did you open Being in LA?

2004. We're getting ready to celebrate 20 years here soon!

Do you offer a signature treatment?

We always recommend our 90-minute Well-Being Facial for first-timers coming into the spa. This well-being treatment incorporates my Jenette Skin Care Signature Facial where one can experience the entire Jenette line of anti-inflammatory, high-vibration products.

What’s your favorite treatment?

My personal favorite treatment is Micro Channeling. It is the deepest way we can heal the skin naturally; infusing a customized solution into the dermis, human stem cells, silver ion, and Jenette's Be Calm and Be Nourished for ultimate repair.

What’s your most popular treatment?

Our most popular treatment at Being in LA is our Well-Being Facial treatment. This session includes a complete detox, clean-out with oxygenated-ozone steam therapy, a customized peel, and ends with my Magic Matcha Green Tea Superfood Masque or my cacao-infused Just Add Sugar Masque.

What products do you use and retail at your spa?

Our number one-selling product line is always Jenette Skin Care. The top three-selling products in my line at Being in LA are my Green Tea Super Food Soap, Be Clean Elixir, and Be Nourished Age-Defying Moisturizer. We also carry and sell Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics, Neo Genesis, Vivaiodays, and some of the Epicuren, Suntegrity, and EMK lines.

At Being in LA, Serrins offers treatments including peels, gua sha, dermaplaning, and more.

Future plans for the brand?

I am in the process of launching an extensive snow mushroom trio that I have been working on for the past year. I am thrilled to promote healthy, ageless skin with the healing power of these mushrooms. We will no longer need hyaluronic acid in our skin routine. The first product to launch in this trio will be this November.

Who inspires you?

For the past couple of years I have been truly inspired by Brene Brown. She was one person who helped me through the pandemic and helped me to find a better balance between work and home life.  I'm also always inspired by one of my healers, Wendy Hutchinson, who calls me out on anything and everything that is not serving me! I also have a dear friend and life coach that continues to inspire me and has been a huge part of my success since 2005, Allana Pratt. I can name quite a few other incredible women who inspire me on a daily basis.

Secret to success?

I have a special gift and I feel it is my offering to the world: creating a safe and sacred space for my clients to come to heal from the inside out, along with result-driven products they can take home with them. My secret is simple: doing what I love. Creating products that are changing the world .

Jenette Skin Care is a line of plant-powered skincare products that heal and transform skin.

Beauty secrets?

Taking care of myself every day! Deep breathing, yoga, drinking lots of water, and eating many veggies and sprouts! And masking every four days with one of my masques (I usually alternate between the Matcha and Cacao.

Wellness tips?

Getting good sleep, I prefer 8 to 9 hours every night!! I also love Dr. Stamet's collab with Host Defense Herbs. I take at least one to three of their mushroom tinctures daily. My personal favorite is their "Memory and Nerve Support.”

Best advice?

Be true to you, whatever that is! Find time to have fun with those you love, have fun with yourself. I have had some of the most incredible experiences through traveling with my family and meditation, time to myself.  Having a cup of my Jasmine Pearls, going for a hike, and absolute top is getting a massage.
