A Virtual Tokyo Travel Experience with Prestige Skincare Brand SK-II

Does watching the Olympics have you dreaming of a time when you can travel to Japan? Prestige skincare brand SK-II has launched a fun virtual experience known as “SK-II CITY” to instantly transport you to the streets of a bustling urban intersection inspired by all the sights, sounds, and senses of Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo.

SK-II CITY visitors can binge-watch six 'VS' Series films in a virtual cineplex that allows guests to immerse in the communal feeling of sitting in a theater while watching the films.

The collection of six animated films is based on the real-life experiences of six Olympic athletes: gymnast Simone Biles, swimmer Liu Xiang, table tennis player Ishikawa Kasumi, badminton players Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsutomo, surfer Mahina Maeda, and Hinotori Nippon, the Japan volleyball team. Each short film explores what it means to take destiny into one’s own hands and societal pressures women experience including trolls, image obsession, rules, limitations, and machine-like mindsets.

“We are thrilled to launch the SK-II CITY as we premiere our next SK-II STUDIO blockbuster 'VS' Series. The SK-II CITY is inspired by our Japan heritage as well as our brand purpose #CHANGEDESTINY," shares Sandeep Seth, Chief Executive Officer, Global SK-II. "In these times of the pandemic, as international travel is still restricted, we want to be able to provide our consumers a gamified experience that she can gain inspiration and shop in a safe yet entertaining and meaningful way."

Japanese prestige skincare brand SK-II is a favorite of celebrities including Tangwei, Ni Ni, Chun Xia, Haruka Ayase, Kasumi Arimura, Naomi Watanabe, and Chloe Grace Moretz. The story behind SK-II began with a quest to understand why elderly sake brewers had wrinkled faces, but extraordinarily soft and youthful-looking hands. These hands were in constant contact with the sake fermentation process.

After years of research, SK-II developed its exclusive and naturally derived ingredient PITERA, crafted from a proprietary fermentation process of a unique yeast strain. SK-II’s new Special Edition PITERA Essence Collection recently launched to celebrate the Olympics, with 5 special-edition bottle designs that are available for a limited time.
