Summer is officially here, and while we love the warm weather and all the time spent outdoors, our hair tends to feel otherwise. Excess heat from the sun and other elements can damage and dry out tresses, which is why it’s important to give your hair a much-needed break from the blow-dryer and other heated styling tools—especially if you tend to use them regularly.

Air-drying is not only healthier for your hair, but it also takes less time to dry your strands than blow-drying does. We’re all about carefree and effortless natural beauty, which is why air-drying is one of our favorite summertime rituals. It helps you spend less time in front of the mirror and more time at the beach, by the pool—or wherever it is you want to spend those perfect summer days!

4 DIY Summer Skin Care Tips

“If styling products are not used when air drying, your hair will move, curl, wave, or worse yet—frizz,” says Fabian Lliguin, cofounder and president of Rahua. “If you are in the one percent of lucky ones, by all means let it be, but the rest of us need to use something plant-based to achieve a healthy, natural, and beautiful look when air drying.”

Fabian’s 4 Tips for Air-Drying

1. Start by using a base product to create the right foundation, but before applying any product be sure that your hair is at least 65% dry. If you hair is too wet, the water will dilute the product and you won’t reap the maximum benefits. Apply Rahua Control Cream to towel-dried or almost-dried hair, concentrating on the ends. Crafted with moisturizing shea butter and molasses, it delivers the perfect defined and separated curl with bounce.

2. For volume and loose, sexy beach waves, apply Rahua Enchanted Island Salt Spray all over, but especially near the roots for lift. The natural pink sea salt provides texture, while guayaba (guava) keeps locks hydrated and soft. Once you apply it, leave it alone. Too much touching disturbs the hair and may make it prone to frizz.

3. Apply Rahua Freestyle Texturizer for a more dedicated style. Twist small sections from mid-lengths to ends, alternating from right to left with the twists, for a loose, tousled style. Created with natural carnauba wax and tapioca starch, hair will have natural hold and support. As hair dries, lightly run your fingers through the hair, but do not comb or brush.

4. For shine and added definition, apply Rahua Smoothing Hair Balm as needed. This nourishing, anti-frizz balm moisturizes and smooths with nourishing Amazonian oils of Rahua, Morete, and Sacha Inchi, and will help keep the cuticles closed and frizz at bay.
