For those of us who are frequent chapstick users, it can be hard to fight the cycle of chapped lips regardless of the weather around us or our level of sun exposure. For when chapstick just won’t cut it, lip masks and scrubs do wonders to help alleviate dead skin and keep lips hydrated.

To help you combat dry, chapped lips, Auraglow has rounded up 12 all-natural DIY lip masks and treatments to help keep your lips looking their best in every season. Read on to see how you can create these easy lips masks yourself.

DIY Exfoliating Lip Masks

Give your cracked lips a bit of TLC with this lip mask filled with moisturizing and exfoliating ingredients. The brown sugar will help to scrub off dead skin cells and restore the shiny and soft skin below. Honey helps deliver potent moisture to your lips to prevent future chapping and the lavender oil helps to heal skin and soothe inflammation that might be caused by the exfoliation.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey

  • 5–6 drops of lavender essential oil

Directions

  1. Mix the raw honey and brown sugar in a small bowl.

  2. Add in your lavender essential oil and mix well.

  3. Massage the scrub onto your lips in a circular motion for two to three minutes.

  4. After, wash away the mixture with warm water and apply a hydrating lip balm to lock in moisture.

Not only is this lip scrub packed with vitamin E and antioxidants to nourish the skin, it also features a healthy dose of yummy cocoa powder. Cocoa powder is known to help boost collagen and increase skin elasticity, which will help lips look plump and full. And with the olive oil and honey ingredients, this scrub packs a powerful moisturizing punch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 2 teaspoons of olive oil

  • 3/4 teaspoon of raw honey

Directions:

  1. Mix together all ingredients in a small bowl.

  2. Once blended, apply the scrub to your lips and massage in a circular motion.

  3. Leave the mask on for five minutes and wash off with warm water.

Strawberries offer a wide variety of beauty benefits including wrinkle prevention and UV skin protection. Paired with the vitamin C benefits that kiwis offer, this mask features a soothing scrub that’s perfect for the sunny months ahead.

Ingredients

  • ½ a kiwi

  • 1 strawberry

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 6 tablespoons of granulated sugar

Directions

  1. Place the strawberry and kiwi in a blender and blend until smooth.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and olive oil.

  3. Add the blended fruits to the bowl and stir.

  4. Once the mixture is well blended, apply the scrub by massaging on your lips in a circular motion.

  5. After about a minute, rinse with warm water.

Beeswax is one of the most common ingredients in Chapstick to help keep lips moisturized and prevent them from chapping. Turmeric is a spice that has been growing in popularity in the beauty industry because it helps fight aging and inflammation. This mask combines several powerful ingredients to scrub away the dead skin and reveal glowing, moisturized skin underneath.

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon pure turmeric powder

  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil

  • 3 tablespoons of castor oil

  • ½ cup of granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of beeswax

Directions

  1. Mix together coconut oil and turmeric powder into a small bowl.

  2. Once blended, add in castor oil and sugar and mix well.

  3. Then, add in beeswax and mix until the mixture is thick and well blended.

  4. Microwave the mixture for about one to two minutes in 30-second intervals, stirring in between.

  5. Once done, stir and place in a container.

  6. Let sit for about 30 minutes and then apply to your lips.

DIY Moisturizing Lip Masks

This lip mask offers serious hydration for lips. The combination of shea butter and beeswax will leave lips feeling soft and plump. With only three ingredients, this is a mask you can easily make anytime your lips are feeling a little dry.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of 100% pure grated beeswax

  • 1 teaspoon of 100% pure shea butter

  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil

  • Colored lipstick (optional)

Directions

  1. Boil water in a bowl.

  2. Add shea butter to a smaller bowl and place the bowl in the bowl of boiling water.

  3. Wait for the shea butter to melt, then add the beeswax and stir.

  4. Add the coconut oil and a pinch of lipstick for color.

  5. Stir carefully without letting any water get into the smaller bowl.

  6. Once the substance has melted completely, transfer it to a sealable plastic container.

  7. Refrigerate for about an hour.

  8. Apply once a day before bed or overnight for the best results.

Strawberries are incredible fruits when it comes to beauty benefits. They’re filled with vitamin C that can help repair chapped lips and the salicylic acid works as a natural exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, leaving your lips feeling dewy and hydrated.

Ingredients

  • 1–2 strawberries

  • 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil

  • A pinch of coffee grounds

Directions

  1. Mash strawberries.

  2. Add in the vitamin E oil to create a silky consistency (feel free to add in more or less to create the texture you like).

  3. Add a pinch of coffee grounds to act as an exfoliant.

  4. Mix together and apply to your lips.

  5. Leave on for 20–30 minutes for hydrated lips.

Avocados are a fantastic ingredient for increasing collagen production and providing antioxidant benefits for skin. Be sure to use a ripe avocado for this lip mask to experience the best results.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons of mashed avocado

  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Directions:

  1. Mash up the avocado and put two teaspoons in a bowl.

  2. Add honey and mix.

  3. Apply to lips for 20 minutes for moisturized lips.

The combination of honey and strawberries offers serious moisture and smoothing benefits for the skin. This is a great mask if you suffer from chapped lips or before a night of wearing lipstick, which has a tendency to dry out the lips.

Ingredients

  • 1 strawberry

  • 1 ½ teaspoons of granulated white sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Directions

  1. Mix together the honey and coconut oil in a small bowl.

  2. Mash the strawberry and mix it in.

  3. Add the sugar and mix well.

  4. Massage the mixture on your lips for a couple of minutes.

  5. Wipe off the lip mask for soft lips!

Rose petals offer natural oils and sugars that help trap moisture in the skin, which promotes silky smooth lips. The yogurt contains lactic acid, which helps promote skin cell turnover to remove dead skin cells and promote skin health.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of crushed dried rose petals or rose petal powder

  • 1 tablespoon of unsweetened, plain yogurt

  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Directions

  1. Grind rose petals in a small blender or coffee grinder. Pick out any large petal pieces.

  2. Mix yogurt, honey, and rose petals into a small bowl.

  3. Apply the mask to your lips and leave on for 15–20 minutes for hydrated, plump lips.

Quick and Easy Overnight Lip Treatments

Coconut oil offers many beauty benefits from hair and teeth to lips and skin. You can try using coconut oil on lips alone and see great results or if your lips need a little more TLC, you can try this overnight lip treatment with only two ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Coconut oil

  • Raw honey

Directions

  1. Mix together equal parts honey and coconut oil until it forms a thick consistency.

  2. Apply to your lips before bed and wash off in the morning.

Aloe vera is another MVP with its anti-inflammatory properties that deliverssoothing and cooling relief for chapped (or sunburned) lips.

Ingredients

  • Bottle of aloe vera

Directions

  1. Before bed, apply a small amount of aloe vera to chapped lips.

  2. Rinse it off in the morning and apply throughout the day as needed.

Ghee is a popular ingredient for skincare products as it offers healthy fats and fatty acids that moisturize the skin. The fatty acids within also help fight dryness, making it a great ingredient to get rid of chapped lips.

Ingredients

  • 2–3 tablespoons of ghee

Directions

  1. Put the ghee in a bowl and heat it up in the microwave.

  2. Place the mixture in a small container and place in the refrigerator to cool for 30 minutes to an hour.

  3. Once the ghee reaches the consistency of a standard lip balm, apply to your lips before bed.

  4. Rinse your lips in the morning.
