If you’re prone to back/spine problems or your body feels like it’s off-balance at times, you might want to consider trying Raindrop Therapy. A special targeted massage that incorporates essential oils into treatment, Raindrop Therapy is inspired by Native American wellness traditions and is a natural way to align the body and mind for a deeply harmonizing, rejuvenating, and relaxing experience.

I chatted with Arlene Stenftenagel, licensed esthetician and owner of True Serenity Skincare Spa in Palm Desert, California, who shared more insight into the innovative therapy that she offers clients:

What is raindrop therapy?

The Raindrop Technique, which is registered by Young Living Essential Oils, is a non-invasive therapy using a sequence of essential oils dispensed from a bottle as small, rain-like drops approximately six inches above the back. The massage technique is used to assist the spine back into alignment and ultimately provides full-body balance. The therapy service combines aromatherapy, reflexology, and feathering of the oils into the skin. [Reference: Young Living Raindrop Technique, www.youngliving.com]

What are the origins of raindrop therapy?

In the 1980s, Young Living Founder and CEO D. Gary Young learned of a Native American ritual within the Lakota Tribe. Wallace Black Elk, a medicine man, explained the technique to him, and then Young perfected the therapy. Note that essential oils themselves are referred to as the life force of a plant.

What are its benefits?

There are many benefits, such as:

  • Stress management

  • Balance and harmony to the body—physically, mentally, and emotionally

  • Structural and electrical alignment

  • Immune enhancement

  • Nerve stimulation

  • Energy alignment

  • Antiseptic (it creates a poor environment for viruses and bacteria to grow)

  • Vitality

The therapy service combines aromatherapy, reflexology, and feathering of the oils into the skin.
