One of only 60 spas in the world to receive the coveted Forbes Five-Star Award, The Spa at Pebble Beach offers signature services that incorporate the healing properties of plants, herbs, and minerals indigenous to California’s Monterey Peninsula. The award-winning 22,000 square-foot sanctuary has 15 massage rooms, five facial rooms, a Flotation Wrap Suite, and a full-service salon—making it the perfect place to relax and revitalize the mind, body, and spirit.

The Spa at Pebble Beach is also home to California Skin Institute, which is the largest privately held dermatology practice in California and offers state-of-the-art medical and cosmetic dermatology services and technologies, including Botox and CoolSculpting. We chatted with Spa Director Lara Davidson, who recommended treatments to try, insider tips, favorite amenities, and more:

Why You’ll Love It: Guests consistently rave about the staff. 25-percent of our staff have worked here more than 15 years, and another 15-percent have worked here for more than 10 years. Our team loves what they do—they love Pebble Beach and it shows in their work.

Key Features: Inside each locker room we have a steam room, sauna, whirlpool spa, and inhalation room with aromatherapy and zero gravity chairs. The ladies’ inhalation room features a salt wall as well. We have a Signature Shower treatment in the men’s locker room, and a Water Experience room (with a solo soaking tub and signature shower) in the ladies’ locker room. We also offer a conservatory and sanctuary with a fire pit for relaxation with complimentary snacks, tea, juice, and spa water.

Other amenities include an outdoor pool set to 82 degrees, and The Spa Juice Bar & Café—where guests can enjoy freshly made smoothies and juices, soups, sandwiches and salads, wine, beer, champagne, cocktails, coffee drinks, and more.

Snacks Served: We have different snacks and beverages available throughout the spa so that you don’t find the same offerings in each location. We offer lavender ginger lemonade, almonds, banana chips, and a savory nut and sesame stick mix in the Sanctuary. We have Pure Inventions Coconut Water in the Esthetics Center; and in the Conservatory, we serve hibiscus iced tea, water with lemon and cucumber, a daily hot tea selection, house-made gluten-free peanut butter oat bars, house-made nut-free date and fruit bars, as well as celery, sliced oranges, and baby carrots.

Insider Tip: For the ladies, book the Women’s Water Experience before your service. It will amplify the results of anything else you book at the spa. The combination of the soaking tub and signature shower is noteworthy. The signature shower is an attended service that uses both hot and cold water to increase circulation. The overhead waterfalls in the shower run at 30 gallons per minute, which give you a great shoulder massage. If you feel decadent about the water use, never fear—Pebble Beach recycles all of its water.

Bonus: We provide everything you need except for a swimsuit. We provide a travel-size toothbrush with toothpaste, face lotion with SPF25, razor, and shaving cream—these are all takeaways for our guests.

Unique Treatment: The Lasapa Lelima Purification Treatment was created by one of our massage therapists who is part of Monterey County’s indigenous Esselen Indian Tribe. The products used in the treatment are harvested and made locally from coastal white sage and elderberry. The service includes a scrub, wrap, massage, and most importantly, a ritual cleansing that uses all four elements.

Splurge Treatment: The Platinum Facial (105 minutes) helps turn back the hands of time. This is the ultimate facial, using every product and tool in the esthetician’s tool kit. It includes a Perk treatment, which uses gentle suction and exfoliation along with a serum to simultaneously exfoliate and hydrate. We pay special attention to the neck, lips, and eyes using specialty collagen masks to bring out your inner glow.  Home care products complete the experience.

Insider’s Favorite: I love the Royal Treatment (75 minutes). We use pure honey, which is great for the skin and also allows for a slow, deep massage of the back. For the rest of the body, we use a honey ginger oil from Pino, which smells divine. The service also incorporates a foot scrub using whey to soften the skin and a face mask. I am relaxed all over again when I smell the products being used in the massage rooms!
