Spa Diary: Sagestone Spa & Salon at Red Mountain Resort in St. George, Utah
Nestled in the foothills of the red rock canyons of St. George, Utah, we found the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure at the Red Mountain Resort and Spa. After spending time hiking and exploring Snow Canyon State Park and Bryce Canyon National Park, we really looked forward to our day of rest and relaxation at the property’s Sagestone Canyon Spa & Salon.
Once we entered the dome-shaped building, we quickly learned that a hot air balloon had been used to create the overall architecture of the spa! Many of the treatments offered at Sagestone Spa & Salon are as unique as the space itself and can only be experienced at Red Mountain Resort. Inspired by ancient health and beauty rituals practiced throughout the world, the spa custom-blends indigenous desert botanicals, local mineral-rich mud, and salts to create tangible, restorative effects that are the perfect way to recover after adventuring around Southern Utah.
The spa features an incredible relaxation area with serene views of the landscape and pool area. A soft robe, slippers, and locker are provided for your convenience, and the spa locker rooms are equipped with a steam room and showers. It offers custom services for men and women, with a hair salon and nail station, as well as an adorable boutique that sells exclusive products with natural healing properties such as FarmHouse Fresh, SpaRitual, Vitajuwel, and more. It also warmed our hearts to see that the spa carries unique items that help support women in the Philippines, Nepal, and India through fair trade.
The resort’s on-site restaurant, Canyon Breeze, features healthy buffet and à la carte breakfast and lunch options, in addition to a full dinner menu. Fresh smoothies and lighter fare options are also available for carry-out.

Guests of the hotel have access to the spa’s locker rooms and relaxation area, even without booking a treatment, and we made sure to take advantage of these amenities throughout our stay. Cold eucalyptus towels are offered outside the steam room, and the spa showers were stocked with natural body and hair products, as well as eucalyptus steam spray for a refreshing touch.
Since we had already done a lot of hiking and were planning to explore Zion Canyon the following day, we opted for the spa’s 80-minute Red Mountain Hiker’s Massage, which focuses on rejuvenating tired leg muscles by adding a marine mud pack to draw out toxins and improve circulation, as well as applying replenishing magnesium gel to address leg cramping and fatigue.
After our massages, we spent more time in the steam room before showering, and felt blissfully relaxed and ready for our next adventure: new moon yoga in the canyon! This unique outdoor class was taught on the bluffs in Snow Canyon State Park, just a short drive from the resort. The class structure is customized by the group’s interests, and yoga mats, blankets, and hand towels are provided by the resort. Closed-toed shoes are recommended for the brief walk from the van to the bluffs. Balancing, stretching, and moving surrounded by blue skies, red rocks, and birds soaring above made it one of the most unique experiences we’ve ever had.
Post-yoga, we enjoyed walking along the resort’s on-site Inspiration Trail, where we meditated and reflected as we walked along the beautifully constructed rock labyrinth, located in fields of black lava rocks and desert blooms with views of red mountains in the distance.
Insider Tip: Upon booking, guests can choose from a variety of all-inclusive packages or pay à la carte for food and activities during their stay. We ultimately chose the à la carte package, as we had already planned several adventures independent of the hotel. For those who prefer organized group adventure, the resort offers a full schedule of activities on-site and throughout Southern Utah.
