Sanctuary Cap Cana Resort & Spa Offers a Sophrologist to Encourage Balance and Mindfulness

At the newly revamped Sanctuary Spa at Sanctuary Cap Cana Resort & Spa in the Dominican Republic, guests have the option of booking a Sophrologist, who encourages visitors towards holistic balance and mindfulness. In between the cave diving, beachside lounging, and delectable cuisines of a trip, guests can pause and elect to be guided by the Sophrologist through a hydrotherapy circuit with gentle movements as they take in the steam bath, cold pool, hot tub, foot bath, and dynamic pool. Afterwards, they can explore the spa’s new jetted reflexology shower path and Zen garden.

The Sophrologist is also great for golfers who have just hit up the partnering golf course for swings, helping to guide them through the menu of massages that focus on upper body muscles. We chatted with Genesis Revilla, Spa Manager and Sophrologist at Sanctuary Spa, who provided more information about the services she offers, how she can help golfers, and more.

What is a Sophrologist?

A Sophrologist encourages guests towards holistic balance and mindfulness by guiding them through hydrotherapy, spa treatments, and mindfulness. Beyond basic meditation, sophrology allows the guest to respond to their environment, such as the various unique stations in Sanctuary Spa with an open, hyper-present approach.

Tell us about your role as Sophrologist at Sanctuary Spa.

My job is to make sure that each guest gets the best recommendations and suggestions regarding the services that will satisfy their needs in the field of health, wellness, and beauty.

How do you help guests decide what spa services they need?

The most important thing when suggesting services is to ask the guests what they are looking for, to know if they have done a spa service before, and how their experience was. I also ask what they are expecting from their services—once I know this information, I suggest the spa treatment or beauty salon service that’s the best for them.

Can you share examples of spa treatments that you would recommend to guests and why?

I always recommend the Earth Connection Massage for 50 minutes to most of the clients, because it’s a massage that combines deep tissue techniques with middle-pressure massage. This is what most people need, because most of them work in offices and it’s focused on a neck, back, and shoulders massage with deep-tissue pressure and lighter pressure on the rest of the body.

I also recommend the Ultimate Face Lifting Facial for 80 minutes because it’s a deep cleansing facial and it provides immediate result for the skin. The products continue to work weeks later, so the clients can see a before-and-after change on their skin with anti-aging benefits.

Can you also share how you help golfers?

The best option for golfers is to try our Four Elements Package. They can choose between four kinds of massages (each one for 50 minutes), come to the spa four times, and use the spa facilities for the day. After every game they need to recover, and with this package they can start with a Begin Balance Massage, which focuses on the neck, back, and shoulders, followed by a Be Fire Massage that includes stretching.

The next option I recommend is the Earth Connection, which combines deep pressure on the back and lighter pressure on the rest of the body, then finishing with a Dreaming On Wave, where we combine a relaxation technique with essential oils that will relax the body and mind.
