Glamifornia Style Lounge: A Beachside Beauty Haven
Malibu may be known around the world for its beautiful beaches and celebrity residents, but that’s not all the famous beach town has to offer. It’s also home to Glamifornia Style Lounge—a unique beachside space where a traditional beauty salon fuses with an art studio. In addition to offering a variety of hair, beauty and makeup services, Glamifornia brings together a network of creative artists, photographers, stylists, musicians and other experts who collaborate under the creative direction of owner Terah Tidy.
We chatted with Tidy about what makes her salon unique, how she celebrated its three-year anniversary, and more:
What is Glamifornia and what makes it unique?
Glamifornia has long been a concept as well as a physical space. It represents so much more than a traditional salon. In fact, it’s more of a beauty studio. Inside, some of the most highly trained and creative artists are available to cater to every client’s need. They are surrounded by art and more. We refer to it as BeauHo chic. In fact, our physical space is inside the old Malibu Courthouse. There’s a lot of history here mingling with new age ideas. It’s where the past fuses with the future.
We offer a wellness bar for guests to sample new foods and drinks, and we offer unique sessions for artists and clients. Our artists can engage in their passion for beauty and then take part in photoshoots to showcase their work. Clients are invited to attend healing sound bath and yoga sessions. On the first Friday of every month, we have special events that are open to the public. These events are an opportunity for local artists to have venue to showcase their talent.
We mix regularly with our neighbors and our fellow small Malibu businesses. And we always strive to live up to our tag line: Come for the style. Stay for the lounge.
How did you celebrate Glamifornia’s three-year anniversary?
I honestly can’t believe that it’s been three years since I opened the Glamifornia Style Lounge. Back then, it was basically just me and a vision for something truly unique. Over the years, the GSL has become a bit of a magnet for some of the most exciting talent in the beauty, fashion, art and wellness sectors. We currently have about 30 artists who are affiliated with the studio, either through working directly in the space or through our concierge beauty catering service. Hair stylists, makeup artists, colorists, aestheticians, nail technicians, massage therapists, and more all call the GSL home. And we’re growing!
Because our space can’t accommodate all 30 at one time, we don’t always get to be together, networking and sharing ideas. So for our three-year anniversary, we had an open house. At this gathering, we were all able to meet and mingle, nosh on plant-based foods, and imbibe organic cocktails and wellness drinks. There were also swag bags filled with fashion accoutrements, beauty samples and my personal brand Madflowers’ sensual oils.
What are your upcoming goals for the next year?
As we start our fourth year of serving the beauty needs of Malibu and the surrounding areas of Southern California, we’re looking to expand our concierge beauty catering service. Currently, we work closely with several wedding venues in the area, providing beauty services for brides, bridal parties, and even the groom and groomsmen. We also offer our concierge artists through local hotels like Nobu. I’d like to bring more artists on-board, offering even more services. The more we offer, the more opportunity there is to be out in the community.
We’re even thinking about franchising our unique idea of having up to 100 artists affiliated with a small space that offers mobile beauty catering as well as a brick-and-mortar location. It’s all very exciting and I can’t wait to see what’s next for the GSL.
